As demand slows, OKC-County Health Dept. takes COVID vaccines on the road

Oklahoman
As the pace of COVID-19 vaccinations slows in Oklahoma and other parts of the U.S., the Oklahoma City-County Health Department is taking inoculations into communities for pop-up clinics.
The approach is a way to remove potential barriers preventing someone from getting to a vaccination site, like lack of transportation, and offer convenient shots to those who otherwise might not seek one out, said OCCHD Executive Director Patrick McGough.
“What will drive the locations and the groups that we re targeting will be the data that we have from our ZIP Code mapping,” McGough said. “So we can tell where it s needed, or where it s lacking, so to speak, and then we can go to those neighborhoods in those communities and provide the vaccines.”  ....

Apartments compete with homeownership in this tight housing market

Oklahoman
Jake and Kristin Fisher started out their marriage by buying a house  because they didn’t know any better.
We felt like that was what we were supposed to do, Jake Fisher said. That s what a married couple did.
Now they rent an apartment  by choice.
Others may feel “stuck” in an apartment while home prices spike across the Oklahoma City area. In the past year, prices jumped 15%, according to the Metro Association of Realtors.
But apartment rents have risen here no more than usual, with one-bedroom units up 3.1% and two-bedroom units up 2.5% year over year, according to Capstone Cos.  ....

A New Future: Inside OKC's New Convention Center

By: News 9
OKLAHOMA CITY -
At $288 million – the city s brand-new convention center is said to be the single largest construction project in city history.
A massive glass building rises up on the eastern edge of Scissortail Park and it is quite the site. But that’s nothing compared to the view from inside out.
Most of the meeting rooms and open space overlook Scissortail Park. As does a huge veranda, offering those who visit a glimpse of what Oklahoma City has to offer.
“You’re not just coming for the building, you’re coming for the second and third experiences which is what happens after five,” said General Manager Al Rojas. ....
