A massive glass building rises up on the eastern edge of Scissortail Park and it is quite the site. But that’s nothing compared to the view from inside out. Most of the meeting rooms and open space overlook Scissortail Park. As does a huge veranda, offering those who visit a glimpse of what Oklahoma City has to offer. “You’re not just coming for the building, you’re coming for the second and third experiences which is what happens after five,” said General Manager Al Rojas. ....

Its biggest attribute at the moment is that s already hosting events. Oklahoma City Convention Center General Manager Al Rojas said the big shows will come eventually, but smaller events are already here. “Right now, it’s a competitive advantage competition to be open,” Rojas said. The 4th floor ballroom has been used for dance competitions and sporting events. Earlier this month, the 200,000 square feet exhibit hosted a socially distanced Christian concert with more than 3,000 people. ....
Oklahoma City’s largest hotel, the Omni, opens Tuesday with the task of drawing locals while the convention market recovers from the ongoing pandemic. Steve Keenan, general manager, believes the hotel across from Scissortail Park has what it takes to make the sale. The 605-room, 17-story Omni was planned and designed to serve as a convention hotel. The hospitality industry has been hit hard by COVID-19 with conventions being canceled or delayed throughout the country. “We’ve been hindered by the pandemic,” Keenan said. “The key is to have people travel into Oklahoma City to see what it’s all about and if we can do that, we believe the convention business will pick up. ....
