Bonnie Kerness, program director for American Friends Service Committee Prison Watch, told lawmakers in a Jan. 18 email that she had received phone calls from the mother of an inmate informing her of abuse that allegedly occurred a week earlier. We anticipate the removal of those who committed the violence, Kerness wrote to Corrections Commissioner Marcus Hicks, Murphy administration officials and state lawmakers. Updated 1 p.m. Thursday Franklin County Chairman Commissioner Dave Keller announced Thursday that all 911 service has been restored to the county. PEMA officials report that service to the other dozen counties had been completely restored by 1 . That means all 911 emergency non-emergency phone lines and all Franklin County Department of Emergency Services call center operations are functional. Franklin County has an outstanding network of emergency service providers who stepped in to receive direct calls from residents with emergencies. Fortunately, no serious issues were reported as a result of the outage, Keller said in a statement. Service was out for approximately 20 hours. ....
A central Pennsylvania man has been charged for his actions at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Barton Wade Shively of Mechanicsburg was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Justice on charges of civil disorder, forcible assault of a government employee, entering restricted grounds and violent entry. The charges came after Shively turned himself in to the FBI s Harrisburg office on Jan. 14 after seeing photos of himself circulating on the news. Shively is the second central Pa. resident to be charged for their actions on Jan. 6. Riley June Williams was arrested and charged with violent entry or disorderly conduct, and entering the restricted space of the U.S. Capitol. She also is accused of stealing a computer used by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, according to court records. ....
From staff reports Four people have been shot at multiple locations in the Poconos, and the suspects remain at large, authorities said Monday night as they continue to investigate the incidents along Route 196. Monroe County Office of Emergency Management officials are asking residents along the Route 196 corridor between A Pocono Country Place and Pocono Farms East to shelter in place and report suspicious activity. According to Mount Pocono Mayor Michael Penn’s Facebook page police activity is ongoing in the areas of Coolbaugh and Tobyhanna townships, although the shelter in place order has been lifted for Coolbaugh Township. Multiple police departments are involved. ....
