Cathedral City s Rainbow Crossing restored to honor late Mayor Greg Pettis

Cathedral City s Rainbow Crossing restored to honor late Mayor Greg Pettis Cathedral City councilmembers and residents gathered Saturday to honor the late Mayor Gregory Pettis by restoring the Rainbow Crossing street painting. Pettis, who died at the age of 63 in 2019, was the longest-serving member of the city council. He was the first openly gay candidate to run for office in the Coachella Valley. Rainbow Crossing is a rainbow-painted crosswalk at the intersection of Highway 111 and West Buddy Rogers Avenue. Pettis pushed to create the crossing in 2016 as part of the Cathedral City LGBT Days. The Rainbow Crossing was the first of its kind in the Coachella Valley that symbolizes the city’s celebration of diversity, Cathedral City communications manager Chris Parman said.

Cathedral City: Measure B yes votes maintain lead in latest election results

Cathedral City residents appear to have chosen to phase out most short-term rentals in the city by 2023, according to updated election results released a week after election day.  As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, Yes on Measure B was leading with 5,000 votes, while 2,939 votes had been cast for No on Measure B with 7,946 votes counted and all 13 precincts reporting.  There are approximately 26,184 registered voters in Cathedral City. The next updated results will be posted on March 18, when the Riverside County Registrar of Voters also plans on certifying the election results. A “yes” vote on Measure B upholds Ordinance 842, which includes the phase-out provision passed unanimously by the Cathedral City Council last September. A “no” vote will revert to a prior set of regulations on short-term rentals in the city.
