World Poker Tour (WPT) has crowned a champion for the third night in a row. This time it was
Brek Schutten emerging victorious in the
WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown for $1,261,095.
Schutten put on a dominating display eliminating all but one of the players at the final table en route to his first big live poker victory with the seven-figure haul representing most of his more than $1.6 million in live cashes.
In addition to the huge cash prize, Schutten was also awarded a Hublot Big Bang Steel Watch, a set of Baccarat Crystal, and, of course, will have his name engraved on the WPT Champions Cup alongside the WPT Champions from all 18 seasons of the World Poker Tour. The WPT also added $15,000 in cash to the top prize as the WPT TOC has been cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown is almost over, and the 2021 edition has been one for the record books. So far this year, live poker tournaments have done extremely well, with players turning out in large numbers to compete. The lack of events in 2020 is a root cause behind the large player numbers. After having nothing to compete in this time last year, players are wasting no time buying into events this year.
For the Showdown, the Seminole Hard Rock Casino saw record turnouts for early events. South Florida was busy as players came from across the state and the US to take part. Right now, the Main Event is still yet to play out and it was able to be a big one, seeing 2,482 entries. There were only two starting flights, so this was a big deal.

It took four days to cut the 2,482-player WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown field down to the final table. On Tuesday evening, the record-breaking $3,500 buy-in event eliminated all but six players, all of whom still have a shot at a $1,261,095 first-place prize.

Heading into Tuesday’s Day 4 session, 21 players still remained, three of whom had over 100 big blinds. Albert Calderon had a sizable chip lead when play began at noon ET from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. He’s still standing, but will enter the final table as one of the two short stacks along with Viet Vo.
