Fundraising ongoing to build new chapel at Allred Unit

A new house of God will rise someday at the Allred Unit if a group of prison volunteers and pastors have their way.
Their vision is for a chapel big enough that no man who wants to worship is turned away. It s a $1 million, 9,000-square-foot dream that can only come to pass through donations.
The church of Allred is in need of a chapel, said longtime prison volunteer Charles Grady, who is chairman of the James V. Allred Chapel Project Committee.
Years ago, demand outgrew a room designated as Allred s chapel. It seats 40 people. A gym where 180 men are allowed isn t big enough, either, for the prison in Iowa Park. ....

Racing is a dangerous sport, even when you re driving in a straight line. Keeping a massively powerful dragster with skinny front tires in check over a quarter-mile is trickier than it sounds. More so if the surface doesn t provide enough grip for the tires. And this is exactly what happened to a big-tire class racer in a blown Chevrolet wagon.

The crash occurred at Iowa Park in Texas during a test pass. This No Prep wagon isn t just a mean-looking machine. It also packs a solid supercharged punch that proved to be a little too much for the low-traction surface of the drag strip. Apparently, no one had been on the track for the day yet, so there was no rubber on the surface. ....

Bradley honored for ministering to Allred inmates

He knows better.
The retired volunteer chaplain from Burkburnett spent 24 years teaching the inmates he could reach all convicted felons to not only believe otherwise but to live it.
They are men who have been created in the image of God, Bradley said. We all make mistakes in life, but with the right kind of teaching, the right kind of thinking, we can change.
Bradley was presented the Religious Service Award during the Governor’s 2020-2021 Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards program.
The statewide award was presented by Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Patrick O’Daniel and TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier in an online ceremony April 16. ....
