Close to three motorcycle crashes occur on Hawke s Bay roads on average per week – resulting in more than $17.8m in ACC compensation in five years.
Between 2015 and 2019, there were 736 motorcycle crashes
in Hawke s Bay. These crashes cost ACC more than $17.8m to help people recover.
In 2019 alone, there were 168 motorcycle injury claims in Hawke s Bay (3.2 per week on average) which came at a cost of $3.7m – the second highest number and cost from the five-year period. ....

Nearly $700,000 worth of fines have been handed out to speeding bus drivers in the past five years, including one who was clocked going 61km/h over the limit.
The Herald can reveal more than 10,500
tickets were issued to Auckland bus drivers and a further 553 fines, worth almost $83,000, were issued to those who were caught running red lights.
Fines range from $30 to $630 depending on how fast the driver was going - but those caught going more than 50km/h over the limit resulted in a court summons for careless, dangerous or reckless driving ....

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday designated five Chinese companies as posing a threat to national security under a 2019 law aimed at protecting U.S. communications networks.
The FCC said the companies included Huawei Technologies Co, ZTE Corp, Hytera Communications Corp, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co and Dahua Technology Co.

The Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 requires the FCC to identify companies producing telecommunications equipment and services that have been found to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons. ....

Diet absorbs most of the focus but sleep may also play a role in reducing the belly fat.
A study by researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine suggests extremes of sleep can encourage visceral fat gain.
The findings suggest the causes of visceral fat extend beyond diet and inactivity.
We put a lot of stock in diet, said Kristen G Hairston, M.D., M.P.H., an assistant professor of endocrinology and metabolism and lead author on the study.
