Chapel Hill, N.C. The Mount Tabor Spartans are the 3AA football state champions after 24-16 win over the Cleveland Rams in Chapel Hill on Thursday night.
The Spartans got the scoring started in the first quarter when Tyress McIntyre connected on a deep ball with Lance Patterson for a 70-yard touchdown pass to claim an early 7-0 lead.
Tabor threatened to strike once again after McIntyre carried the ball to the Cleveland three, but a false start penalty set the Spartans back and the Rams blocked a field goal after forcing a fourth down scenario.

In a battle of unbeatens, Mount Tabor s football team earned an impressive 21-10 win at home over Weddington in the second round of the NCHSAA 3AA Playoffs on Friday.
The Spartans (9-0, 5-0 Piedmont Triad 3A) No. 6 in the West in the HighSchoolOT rankings were able to use a steady ground-and-pound approach to wear down the Warriors (7-1, 6-0 Southern Carolina 3A) who took the top spot in the West after the final week of the regular season.
were led offensively by senior running back B.J. McIntyre, who had 17 carries for a game-high 146 yards (8.6 yards per carry), including a 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it a two-score game and help seal the victory.
Mount Tabor remains unbeaten, rolls over Williams in first round victory

Mount Tabor s boys lacrosse team continued its undefeated season with a 16-4 victory over Williams in the first round of the state playoffs on Monday.
Matthew Fangmann scored a game-high six goals and Luke Mattison and Daniel Brown scored four goals apiece to lead the Spartans (14-0, 11-0 Conference 14).
Tabor led the entire way as Fangmann scored the opener on an assist from Mattison with 7:45 remaining in the first quarter. Brown added a score less than two minutes later to put the Spartans up 2-0.
