Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen said âsomething had to be doneâ about Daniel Erich Recker who faced Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday. The court heard Recker was sentenced to 12 months probation in April last year after pleading guilty to common assault domestic violence and aggravated contravention of a domestic violence order. But on March 8 this year, he contravened the bail conditions by failing to complete the mandatory United Care domestic violence program or seeking counselling. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only Bail has been rejected for a man who police allege violently assaulted a stranger almost to death with a set of nunchucks in New South Wales before fleeing to Mackay to avoid detection. Jason Reginald Soars was arrested in the Mackay region this week and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent over an alleged incident at East Maitland between 10.20pm and 10.40pm on March 31, 2021. Mackay Magistrates Court heard a passer-by found a man seriously injured and covered in blood in the middle of Ann Street in East Maitland. Prosecutor Rob Beamish said he had several missing teeth and life threatening injuries that needed surgery. ....
Checks revealed the ute was registered to Knight, who handed himself in to police four days later on March 23. He told police he deliberately drove off and turned off his lights because he knew he was disqualified. He also said he had stopped at Marian school to wait for the officers but they never arrived and that he had since had his ute moved to his mum’s house to remove his access. He pleaded guilty to disqualified driving, evasion and speeding. Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen asked the police prosecutor for “the date of the recent fatality on this road in this same area”. ....

Prosecutor Sheena Gravino told Mackay Magistrates Court the grandmother called police to her Mount Pleasant home about 11.20am on December 15 last year after the younger woman began abusing her. She was said to be yelling and screaming and throwing things at her, Ms Gravino told the court. She could be heard screaming in the background of that call to police. The court heard a domestic violent protection order was made in January last year. ....
