Checks revealed the ute was registered to Knight, who handed himself in to police four days later on March 23. He told police he deliberately drove off and turned off his lights because he knew he was disqualified. He also said he had stopped at Marian school to wait for the officers but they never arrived and that he had since had his ute moved to his mum’s house to remove his access. He pleaded guilty to disqualified driving, evasion and speeding. Acting Magistrate John Aberdeen asked the police prosecutor for “the date of the recent fatality on this road in this same area”.
