Høglund wins new contract to deliver Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) for Bank of Communications Financial Leasing (BoComm Leasing)-owned LR II tankers chartered by Shell.
Høglund, a leading global marine solutions and system integration expert, announced that it has been awarded a contract to deliver Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) for four LNG-fuelled LR II 119,900 DWT crude and product oil tankers.

In partnership with Guangzhou Shipyard International, Høglund will design, supply and deliver the FGSS for the vessels - owned by China Bank of Communications Financial Leasing (BoComm Leasing) and chartered by Shell - between December 2021 and August 2022; delivery of first and last vessel, respectively. ....

Høglund, a leading global marine solutions and system integration expert, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to deliver Fuel Gas Supply Systems (FGSS) for four LNG-fuelled LR II 119,900 DWT crude and product oil tankers.
In partnership with Guangzhou Shipyard International, Høglund will design, supply and deliver the FGSS for the vessels – owned by China Bank of Communications Financial Leasing (BoComm Leasing) and chartered by Shell – between December 2021 and August 2022; delivery of first and last vessel, respectively.
The project demonstrates the growing understanding within shipping that transitioning to alternative fuels will require specialised solutions, particularly when it comes to fuel handling systems. What does an ammonia-ready vessel look like?
As carbon-neutral fuel choices narrow, shipowners are beginning to look more closely at how existing and newbuild vessels might use clean fuels. Ammonia is near the top of the list for many shipowners.
Ammonia has traditionally been produced from hydrocarbons, although in the future there is potential for carbon capture to reduce the emission footprint of production (so called ‘blue ammonia’) or for production from renewable, non-carbon sources such as wind or solar energy (‘green ammonia’). Independent of how it is produced, ammonia certainly has the energy potential for a marine fuel, with an energy density of around 3kWh per litre (somewhere between hydrogen and LNG in terms of storage volume). But challenges including toxicity, corrosiveness, slow ignition, and NOx emissions will require a combination of new engine and fuel gas supply system technologies.
