There is a new Economic Development Director for Madison County government. Walt Williams has been the City of Edwardsville’s Economic Development Director but will move into this new role with the county later this month.
Williams holds a Bachelor of Science in economics and African-American studies from Denison University and a master’s in business administration from the John Carroll University. Chairman Kurt Prenzler tells The Big Z Williams is a great addition to the team.

Williams also serves as the president of the NAACP Edwardsville Branch, board member of the Edwardsville Community Foundation and holds the position of ambassador for the Ed/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce. He will start his new role as the economic development coordinator on April 29.

EDWARDSVILLE As construction progresses, Edwardsville’s newest recreational facility recently signed on a new major sponsor.
The RP Lumber Center, a state-of-the-art facility, is the third and final recreational development to be completed as part of the “A Better Place to Play” initiative. It features an ice rink, teen center and 175-meter indoor track, located off of Tiger Drive and Governors’ Parkway, in Edwardsville. Anderson Hospital, located in Maryville, will be sponsoring the large fitness center located within the complex.
Anderson Hospital President Keith Page, and chief executive officer, said he is enthusiastic about the hospital’s involvement in the new recreational development.

The proposed ice rink, teen center, track and recreational facility called TheCENTER planned in Edwardsville has received naming rights sponsorships from The Korte Company and Contegra Construction Company.
EDWARDSVILLE The proposed ice rink, teen center, track and recreational facility called TheCENTER has recently received $50,000 naming rights sponsorships from The Korte Company and Contegra Construction Company.
The Korte Company has signed on for scoreboard naming rights. Contegra Construction will sponsor the facility’s seating area for rink spectators.

The City of Edwardsville and the Village of Glen Carbon officially are partners in the project to build a proposed ice rink, track, fitness and teen center.
This new development, called TheCENTER, will be located in Edwardsville by Edwardsville High School, off Tiger Drive and Governor’s Parkway.
The two entities already partner on the community pool at SIUE and this agreement is another example of their city-village collaboration.
TheCENTER is the third and final park project to be completed as part of the “A Better Place to Play” Campaign.
