Man jailed for storing 780 kg of African pangolin scales | Environment

Hanoi (VNA) - The People’s
Court of northern Hung Yen province on June 2 sentenced a man to five years and three months in jail for storing 780 kg of pangolin scales - a type of banned goods - in
accordance with Clause 3, Article 191 of the 2015 Penal Code (revised and supplemented in 2017).
The convicted is Nguyen Van Long, 36, resides in Tan Tien commune in Hung Yen province’s Van Giang district.
During a raid on the house of Long s older brother in September 2018, the Environmental Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, in
collaboration with local police, detected 32 sacks containing 780 kg of pangolin ....

Northern region told to prepare for storm Choiwan | Environment


The centre predicted the system would move west at 20km per hour.
At 1am on June 4, the tropical depression system is predicted to be at about 21.5 degrees north and 121.2 degrees east, about 340km from Luzon Island of the Philippines.
The tropical storm, called Choiwan, is predicted to move to the north then turn northeast, then cease to be a tropical depression on the East Sea.
There will be heavy rain in northern areas, with rainfall predicted at 80-50mm. There is a risk of flash floods and landslides in northern areas.
In order to proactively respond to the storm, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has asked coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to Khanh Hoa to closely monitor and notify vehicle owners and ship and boat captains about the evolution of the storm as well as maintain contact to promptly handle emergencies that may occur. ....

Hanoi (VNA) - The
Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE)
has requested activities held as part of the Action Month for the Environment
in response to World Environment Day on June 5 be organised in accordance with COVID-19
prevention and control regulations.
The slogans for this year’s action month
include “The Earth needs us! Let’s unite against climate change”, “Let’s use
utensils from recycled materials”, “Using green materials contributes to
environmental protection”, and “Environmental pollution from the use of
pesticides, single-use plastics, and non-biodegradable plastic bags”. ....
