Deaths, virus cases at area nursing homes NHC Healthcare released various statistics on its website about COVID-19 at its Oak Ridge facility. It reported 10 in-house active COVID-19 patients on its website Monday. The number of patients admitted positive were 26. The number of recovered patients was 60. The number of patients transferred to the hospital was zero. No patients were under investigation for the coronavirus The total number of employees who tested positive was 87. The number of employees who recovered was 83. Total deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 is 11. The state of Tennessee also reported statistics for other assisted living facilities that had cases within the last 28 days. Canterfield of Oak Ridge on Bus Terminal Road had two resident COVID-19 cases and five staff COVID-19 cases, but no resident deaths. The last positive case was Dec. 23. Holiday Bureau persists through pandemic, theft Oakridger Holiday Bureau of Anderson County, which provides toys to less fortunate children in the area is continuing this year, in spite of the pandemic and, recently, theft. Sharon Crane, president of the Holiday Bureau board, gave an update in a post on Facebook regarding the theft. “THIEVES STEALING FROM THE POOR AT CHRISTMAS!!” she stated. On the night of Dec 2, large toys were left outside under grey and green tarps, she reported. When volunteers returned to work in the morning Dec. 3, many of the toys and the tarps were reportedly missing. “We serve the poor of Anderson County. The thieves have caused some children not to get large toys this year! A police report has been filed!!” she stated. ....
Special to The Oak Ridger The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas Parade set for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday will be held with a twist. It s a “reverse” parade. The theme of this year’s “reverse” parade is “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” More than 40 individuals and organizations have signed up to display along the parade route. A “reverse” parade is a parade where the floats are stationary and spectators drive the parade route. According to a Chamber news release, on Saturday night, floats will line the northbound lanes of Lafayette Drive (heading towards Oak Ridge Turnpike) and spectators will drive down the southbound lanes (heading towards Illinois Avenue) to enjoy the festivities from the safety and comfort of their own cars. ....
