Ashcraft Saves The Day As Lookouts Snap Losing Streak
Highly-Touted Righty Tosses Seven Scoreless Innings In 2-1 Victory Saturday, July 24, 2021 - by John Hunt
Graham Ashcraft was the man of the hour for the Chattanooga Lookouts Saturday night.
Mired in a four-game losing streak against Birmingham where the Barons had scored 37 runs in those four victories, somebody needed to step up in a big way to stop the bleeding and somehow make something good happen for the local team.
The hard-throwing righty was more than equal to the task as he pitched seven scoreless innings where he scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked none.
Heartbreaking Defeat: Lookouts Lose Fourth Straight
Two Bases-Loaded Walks The Difference As Birmingham Wins, 7-6 Friday, July 23, 2021 - by John Hunt
The Chattanooga Lookouts came into Friday night’s game with the Birmingham Barons on a three-game losing streak, dropping those games by not-so-close scores of 3-0, 17-9 and 10-5.
A fourth straight defeat was much closer. For all practical purposes, the Lookouts should have won before 4,615 fans, but unfortunately, close doesn’t count in AA baseball.
The Barons took over first place in the Double-A South’s Northern Division with Friday’s 7-6 win, the winning runs scoring in the eighth inning on a pair of bases-loaded walks. Birmingham is now 38-31 while the Lookouts are now 36-31.

Lorenzo Cedrola was scorching a path down to first base and tried to beat out a throw in the bottom of the fifth. The throw was close, but the Lookout’s star player was called out by the first-base umpire. Cedrola slammed his helmet down in disgust, the protective equipment thrown with such force that it bounced into the sky like a basketball. The umpire ejected Cedrola, and the centerfielder didn t stop walking until he got back to the clubhouse.

The Blue Wahoos sustained a second hard-luck loss Sunday to end their first homestand of the season.
After holding a 5-4 lead in the ninth, the Birmingham Barons rallied with a pair of runs after loading the bases and held for a 6-5 win before a crowd of 4,102 at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
The comeback followed the Barons rally in the late innings Saturday to take that game.
The losses, however, were countered by a week where the Blue Wahoos (6-6) returned to their bayfront stadium for the first time in 20-plus months and played six games in sunset settings.
