New Delhi, June 27 : The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning to organise the Hero I-League this season in Kolkata with the scheduled start tentatively fixed in mid-December. We are looking at a tentative date of mid-December onwards for kicking-off the Hero I-League. We are in talks with the Indian Football Association (Bengal), and also the Government of West Bengal to organise the League in Kolkata and its suburbs like the last edition, I-League CEO Sunando Dhar said during the AIFF League Committee s meeting held virtually on Saturday.

The All India Football Federation’s league committee met on Friday and decided to do away with relegation for last season’s I-League considering the extraordinary circumstances arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic on recommendation of its technical director Isac Doru. Citing examples of other footballing nations from across the world like Netherlands (Eredivisie), Argentina (Liga Profesional de Futbol), Mexico (Liga MX), Romania (Liga 1), Japan (J-League and J2-League, Doru had earlier recommended that no team should be demoted this season.
