Indian club to compete in AFC Women s Club Championship

New Delhi [India], May 4 (ANI): 2022 will be a landmark year for women s football with two major international events the AFC Women s Asian Cup 2022 and the FIFA U-17 Women s World Cup 2022 set to be hosted in India.
As one builds up to the mega-events and moves forward together, another first-of-its-kind milestone will be achieved as an Indian club is set to feature in the AFC Women s Club Championship 2021, a pilot tournament being implemented soon by the Asian Football Confederation.
The tournament will feature eight teams from eight different nations and will be played between October 30 to November 14. Group A (East) will consist of representative clubs from Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, while Group B (West) is set to feature a club each from India, IR Iran, Jordan, and Uzbekistan wherein India is to be represented by the Indian Women s League champions.
What does this competition mean for Indian Women s football?
All India Football Federation (AIFF) General Secretary Kushal Das was elated with the introduction of the AFC Women s Club Championship as he felt that an Indian club participating in such a continental competition will be a great boost to women s football in the country.
“An Indian club playing in the AFC Women’s Club Championship is a great opportunity to boost the growth of women’s football in India. We already have two International events – the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup lined up in 2022. As a prelude to that, Indian representation in the Club Championship will further redefine women’s football in India to a large extent by capturing the imagination of all fans, said Kushal Das.

The 28-year-old player had started her professional career in England with West Ham United s women s team in 2015 and played for them in England s third division. She was in England to pursue M.Sc in Sports Management from Loughborough University.
She worked as a student ambassador and in her free time, she used to appear for trials.
From one such trial, Milwall FC had shown interest in signing but since she was on a student visa, Chauhan was not eligible to sign a professional contract. According to the rules of the FA English football’s governing body a player on a student visa cannot join a club in the top two tiers of women’s football.

New Delhi, April 10 : Anushka Samuel scored the all-important goal as Hans Women FC defeated HOPS FC to clinch the Football Delhi Women s League 2020-21 title at the Ambedkar Stadium on Saturday.
By winning the league, Hans Women FC have qualified for the Indian Women s League (IWL) from Delhi. Hans FC were awarded the trophy and a prize money of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up were richer by Rs 25,000. The losing semi-finalists, Signature FC and Growing Star FC, received Rs 10,000 each.
