Contrary to online reports earlier in the week, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, was not taken into custody by the EFCC.
His spokesman, Anietie Ekong, said it was actually Akpabio who sought an audience with the EFCC to discuss issues surrounding the transfer of funds belonging to the Niger Delta Development Commission.
He made the clarification in Abuja on Saturday in a statement in which he said it was also untrue that Akpabio attempted to buy his freedom from custody by bribing EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa with 350,000 dollars.

Breaking News | My purported detention by EFCC, falsehood fabricated from pit of hell ― Akpabio

By Chris Ochayi
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has described his purported detention by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC over alleged attempt to bribe the agency’s Chairman with $350,000 as false, fake and unfounded.
Akpabio, who stated this while reacting to a report published by an online medium, to the extent that he was detained by the anti-graft agency for two hours after an attempt bribery allegation, said the report was falsehood peddled by the authors of the false and malicious publications.
The minister, therefore, urged the general public to discountenance the said publication as ‘It was propelled by persons whose stock-in-trade is politics of blackmail now occasioned by the very serious progress made in respect of the on-going Forensic Audit of the NDDC.” ....

Akpabio's Deceitful Forensic Audit Should Not Stop Inauguration of NDDC Board

Damian Nwikinaka, National Chairman of Niger Delta Renaissance Coalition, wonders why President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly are quiet while the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio runs the Niger Delta Development Commission in contravention of the laws establishing the agency
The Niger Delta Minister Senator Godswill Akpabio recently hinted that the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which he had earlier said would be concluded and the report submitted before April (this month) will now be concluded in July, following which the Governing Board will be put in place.
We consider this an insult to good governance and the Niger Delta people, that an external audit is not only taking place for over a year and a half now but that a development agency for the region is being run haphazardly, without a Governing Board as provided for in its Establishment Act, at the whims and caprices of Akpabio. ....
