Uyo- Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has debunked reports that he was detained by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for attempting to bribe the agency’s chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa with $350,000.
Akpabio described the allegation by a renowned online medium as a fabrication and malicious, urging the public to discountenance it.
This is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong and obtained by Vanguard in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, CON has been drawn to a defamatory article written by SAHARA REPORTERS titled: “How EFCC detained Godswill Akpabio for two hours after attempting to bribe Agency Chairman with $350,000. ....

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has dismissed a news report in an online media (not Vanguard) that he was on Wednesday detained and questioned by operatives of the Economic and Financial. Fumes Commission EFCC after an attempt to bribe its chairman with $350,000.
Akpabio in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong on Saturday in Abuja said he was the one who sought an audience with the anti-graft agency boss on issues bordering on the transfer of funds belonging to the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC in respect of the 3% statutory remittances from Oil and Gas Companies in the custody of the EFCC. ....

EFCC denies detaining Akpabio over bribery allegation

Ekong described the online article entitled:
“How EFCC detained Godswill Akpabio for two hours for attempting to bribe the new EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa with 350,000 dollars’’ as defamatory.
He said the article was fabricated and that there was no reason for the minister to bribe the EFCC boss as alleged.
He explained that on Wednesday, April 14, Akpabio sought audience with the EFCC chairman to discuss the transfer of funds belonging to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
This, he said, was in respect of the 3 per cent statutory remittances from Oil and Gas Companies in the custody of the EFCC. ....
