Houses being sold above asking price in stamp duty holiday dash
The proportion of homes going for more than the original price has hit a seven year high, according to estate agents

The proportion of homes being sold for more than the asking price hit a seven year high in March, estate agents said, as the stamp duty holiday continued to fuel demand.
Figures from NAEA Propertymark, a trade body for agents, showed that the average number of sales agreed in that month was the highest since 2007 with an average of 12 per estate agency branch.
One in six of those were sold for more than the sum the seller had originally asked for with just a third selling for below the original price, the lowest since the body’s records began. ....

These are all signs the property market is overheating, with demand stoked to an unsustainable level. 
According to estate agency Hamptons, in the first three months of 2021 a third of property sales had multiple bidders. Almost one in five properties had offers from five or more buyers, while 28pc of homes have sold above their asking price so far this year, up from 19pc in 2020. Around one in ten properties sell before even making it to market. ....

The cost of buying a beach hut has soared to record highs as holidaymakers scramble to make the most of staycations.
The price of beach huts has risen 41pc in the last year to an average of £36,034, according to hotel booking website Hoo. 
Three beach huts in Mudeford, Dorset, one of those most sought-after areas, recently sold at an asking price of £325,000, which is higher than the average price of a house in the UK. ....

More skyscrapers are being built in London now than before Covid struck, according to figures which suggest that fears the office is dying could be overblown.
A total of 587 tall buildings were in the planning and construction phases at the end of last year, research by Knight Frank and the New London Architecture think tank has found – up 7.9pc from 2019. ....
