School district announces grades 3-6 will return to in-person learning April 12, with grades 7-12 back April 19 Posted: March 15, 2021 459 The Edmonds School District said Monday that it intends to offer in-person learning to students in grades 3-12 by mid-April, joining the grade K-2 students who are returning March 22. Gov. Jay Inslee announced last Friday he would issue an emergency proclamation this week that all schools in the state must offer an option for in-person learning for K-12 students by April 19. In a letter to families Friday, Balderas said the district will “do everything we can to meet the mandate.” Another letter was sent to families Monday, confirming that all students would be offered an in-person option. ....

Just days after announcing plans to return more students to school buildings, the Edmonds School District is scrambling to change pace following a new directive from the governor to offer in-person learning to students at all grade levels by mid-April 2021. “We know our students and families have been struggling for nearly a year, as it was March 13, 2020, when we were ordered to close all schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Superintendent Gustavo Balderas said in a statement to the news media Friday. “We will share more information about next steps to meet the governor’s mandate soon.” ....

(Photos courtesy of the Edmonds School District) As most students continue to complete school work remotely, the Edmonds School District has repurposed an unoccupied school building to provide a space for students who do not have a place to study. Edmonds Hub (also known as eHub) offers students who qualify for McKinney-Vento and foster care a place to study and complete class work. Located in the former Alderwood Middle School building in Lynnwood, the site also provides students access to meals, stable technology including Wi-Fi, tutoring, educational support materials and laundry services. ....
