As the last of the Siemens AG/Dresser-Rand plant workers left the 100-acre complex in April, Craig Clark admitted he was concerned about the fate of the sprawling Allegany County industrial complex. It was a big concern, said Clark, executive director, Allegany County Industrial Development Agency. It kept me up at night. This year, however, the poll only included places 2 through 10, as there was no question to what the top story of the year would be — the COVID-19 pandemic. SARS-CoV-2, better known as COVID-19 or coronavirus, was first reported in China in December 2019. The first local mention of the disease was published in the Times Herald on Jan. 27, with health officials reporting they were trying to prepare for the disease if it came to the area. It was not a case of if, but when.

5 things to know about new Wellsville Business Park

WELLSVILLE Curt Crandall called it making lemonade out of lemons.  With the news last week that the massive Siemens Dresser Rand facility in Wellsville is being repurposed as the Wellsville Business Park, and actively recruiting new tenants, the Allegany County Board of Legislators Chairman said the site may soon return to its position as a job creator for the region.  “It wasn’t long ago everybody was wondering what is it we’re going to do with this facility?” Crandall said. “This facility has a long history in Allegany County for manufacturing and providing jobs. It has been an integral part of our history in Allegany County. With this move and positioning it like this, it looks like it will remain an integral part of Allegany County and beyond. It really has the potential for a regional impact in New York state and northern Pennsylvania.”
