What s next for new Alstom rail car facility?

Start with moving a whole lot of earth, both above the ground and below.  The City of Hornell Industrial Development Agency this week continued to set the foundation for a new 135,000 square foot rail car manufacturing facility on Shawmut Drive, applying for a $4.5 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to offset some costs associated with the project.  The IDA previously secured a $689,000 loan from the Regional Economic Development and Energy Corporation (REDEC) to make the land in the Shawmut Industrial Park “site ready” for development. Then Rochester investors Alan Knauf and Joseph Meindl provided what Clark believes is the answer. Through their Wellsville Business Park LLC affiliate, the two bought the plant and will transform it into Allegany County s first industrial park. The deal closed in December.
