Rosyth: Iron Lady barge departs Forth port for Energy Park Fife in Methil

THE Iron Lady barge had a tight fit under the Forth bridges yesterday (Thursday) morning.
Photos from local photographer Gordon Hamilton showcases the barge and its cargo of a topside drilling platform departing from the Port of Rosyth and passing beneath the iconic bridges.
The Iron Lady had been berthed at the Port of Rosyth since its arrival on April 11 before departing for Energy Park Fife in Methil where its cargo will be unloaded prior to its decommissioning.
The Iron Lady was towed by three of Forth Ports-owned tugs.

Onlookers on both the north and south banks of the Forth Estuary were treated to a spectacular as one of the most remarkable marine operations ever undertaken on the river unfolded before their eyes. ....

The public were treated to a rare sight on Thursday as a barge carrying a huge oil rig sailed up the Firth of Forth.
The 200mtr long Iron Lady barge, with the aid of three Forth Ports operated tugs, transported its enormous topside drilling platform from the Port of Rosyth up the Fife coast to Methil.
The topside drilling platform will be decommissioned at Energy Park Fife in Methil.
The cargo cut an impressive sight as it set out on its journey shortly after 8am before passing under the Queensferry Crossing as well as the Forth Road and Forth bridges. ....

World's largest construction vessel, Pioneer Spirit, off East Lothian coastline

A REMARKABLE marine operation has taken place off the coast of East Lothian.
The largest construction vessel in the world – Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit – could be seen off the county’s coast for much of the weekend.
The 382 metres long and 124 metres wide vessel transferred its huge cargo of a topside drilling platform onto the 200-metre-long barge the Iron Lady on Saturday.
The following morning, the Pioneering Spirit, which was specifically designed for the single-lift installation and removal of large offshore platforms, separated from the Iron Lady and the cargo barge was towed clear.
The Pioneering Spirit then set off once more for the North Sea. ....
