A REMARKABLE marine operation has taken place off the coast of East Lothian. The largest construction vessel in the world – Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit – could be seen off the county’s coast for much of the weekend. The 382 metres long and 124 metres wide vessel transferred its huge cargo of a topside drilling platform onto the 200-metre-long barge the Iron Lady on Saturday. The following morning, the Pioneering Spirit, which was specifically designed for the single-lift installation and removal of large offshore platforms, separated from the Iron Lady and the cargo barge was towed clear. SOME of East Lothian’s 2020 local heroes have been rewarded for their work during the pandemic by Co-op Funeralcare. Nominated by staff at each East Lothian parlour, they were presented with a hamper to thank them for the hard work, kindness and support they showed during last year’s lockdown. Each hamper was filled with sweet treats, snacks, nibbles and a bottle of prosecco, filled by the Co-op Funeralcare and grocery store in Tranent. Well-known fundraiser and Radio Saltire DJ Davie Martin was recognised for his role helping the local community, including playing music at funerals during restrictions free of charge. ....
