Hospitals are fighting covid-19 with 40% less staff and are looking for volunteers to defeat the virus
It’s not just ordinary people who are facing a shortage of
beds, medicines, oxygen, drugs, ventilators, plasma . Hospitals too are facing a shortage - of manpower. So bad is the shortage - about 40 per cent - that hospitals are now sending an SOS to the State Government seeking the support of volunteers.
Dr Prasanna H M, the president of the
Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (PHANA) said, “Many doctors are falling sick despite taking the vaccination and due to covid fatigue. Hence, we are working with only 50 to 60 per cent of the staff. If this situation continues, then absenteeism may increase and the health infrastructure will crumble. Stockbridge poised for lively Select Board, Planning Board contests

STOCKBRIDGE â A lively campaign season ahead of next monthâs annual town election includes a two-way contest for a Select Board seat, pitting incumbent Ernest âChuckâ Cardillo against former board member Donald Chabon, who was chairman for two years.
Town Moderator Gary Johnston, a 43-year incumbent, is challenged by Jamie Minacci. Four candidates are vying for two five-year Planning Board posts.
During the recent Democratic Town Committee caucus, candidates seeking endorsement of the party aired their views.
Only committee members can offer endorsements of Democratic or unenrolled candidates at a secret ballot, which was held April 15, with 16 members voting.
At the caucus on the previous day, Cardillo said the current board âworks very well together; if we donât agree on something, we discuss it. We put our points across, vote on it and move on to the next topic.â ....

COVID cases up since last Wareham Board of Health meeting
WAREHAM – COVID cases have gone up markedly since the previous Board of Health meeting last month.
Health Director Bob Ethier said during Wednesday s meeting that the latest weekly tally was 77 confirmed cases and seven probable cases, which represented an uptick.
That’s 31 more cases than the last weekly tally presented to the board on March 17. There have been 1,616 confirmed cases in Wareham since March 2020.
On the positive side, Wareham Housing Authority residents have been getting vaccinated through the state and WHA director. “They’re all set” at the WHA’s two residential complexes, Ethier said. ....
