Voters return Cardillo to Stockbridge Select Board

STOCKBRIDGE — Selectman Ernest “Chuck” Cardillo, the current board chairman, scored a victory in Tuesday’s annual town election against challenger Don Chabon, who was seeking a comeback after having served on the board from May 2016 to May 2019. Cardillo won his third three-year term with 295 votes while Chabon gained 208, according to unofficial results. Chabon had been endorsed by the town’s Democratic Committee in a secret caucus vote last month, with 16 of the committee’s 26 members participating in the balloting. Out of 1,641 registered voters, 520 cast ballots, a turnout of nearly 32 percent. Voters demonstrated a strong preference for familiar faces in town government, handing victories to long-serving members.

For Stockbridge elections, plenty of contested races on the ballot

STOCKBRIDGE — A high-stakes race for a Select Board post, a four-way contest for two Planning Board seats, and a challenge to the town moderator who has held the position for 43 years, highlight the annual town election. The campaign has reflected the split in town between residents who prioritize retaining open space and restricting large-scale development and others who are more hospitable to growth, additional housing and population increases, especially young families. In-person voting is on Tuesday in the Senior Center on the ground floor of the Town Offices from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. There are 1,641 registered voters, said Town Clerk Terri Iemolini, and 45 voted early in person, while 52 others requested either early or absentee ballots.

Stockbridge poised for lively Select Board, Planning Board contests

STOCKBRIDGE — A lively campaign season ahead of next month’s annual town election includes a two-way contest for a Select Board seat, pitting incumbent Ernest “Chuck” Cardillo against former board member Donald Chabon, who was chairman for two years. Town Moderator Gary Johnston, a 43-year incumbent, is challenged by Jamie Minacci. Four candidates are vying for two five-year Planning Board posts. During the recent Democratic Town Committee caucus, candidates seeking endorsement of the party aired their views. Only committee members can offer endorsements of Democratic or unenrolled candidates at a secret ballot, which was held April 15, with 16 members voting. At the caucus on the previous day, Cardillo said the current board “works very well together; if we don’t agree on something, we discuss it. We put our points across, vote on it and move on to the next topic.”
