NGO, research organisation to counsel medical fraternity that is overworked, stressed by covid pressure
A city-based NGO has joined forces with a research and training organisation to provide all doctors working on the front lines during the pandemic with mental health support. They have also introduced an emotional well-being course for them which will focus on psychological support.
The initiative has been taken up by
Jhatkaa.org, an NGO which has collaborated with the
Centre for Social Research and Development who are providing counselling.
The course is designed for small groups with each group consisting of up to five people as well as for people who choose one-on-one sessions, that act as psychosocial support, and are customised to suit the needs of the recipients/groups. ....

Private hospitals wait for Karnataka govt nod to get Covid vaccine stocks

BENGALURU: After the Union Government recently announced that private hospitals should place orders on the government’s CoWIN portal for vaccine supply, the Private Hospitals and Nursing Association (PHANA) says they are still waiting for the State Government’s nod to start with the process.
After the Centre’s announcement, the State Government had asked private hospitals to register on the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (KPME) portal. Later, the hospitals were again asked to register on the CoWIN portal, but many did not get their vaccine stocks after placing orders.
Following this, officials from National Health Mission (NHM) Karnataka, had asked PHANA to wait until they conduct an online training on how to go about the process. Surprisingly, the training hasn’t been carried out so far, and many hospitals are still waiting to get the vaccine stocks to take up inoculation. ....

Ivermectin: The jury is still out on this medicine

Although Ivermectin is generally tolerated at moderate doses, side-effects could increase as the doses are increased; higher concentrations of Ivermectin is needed to be administered in patients’ lungs for it to be effective against the virus, said Dr Jagadish Hiremath, medical director at Ace Multi-Speciality Hospital. “We have to wait for a more conclusive clinical trial on a large and diverse subset of the population, which will give us clarity on its usage,” he said. ....
