'Outstanding achievement' as UCLan accoladed in top 7 per cent of universities worldwide

Students and staff at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) are today celebrating after being placed in the top seven per cent of universities in the world.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) gave the University the seal of approval in its latest edition of the CWUR’s ‘Global 2000 List’ - the largest academic study of global universities.
The list, which features 19,788 institutions, saw UCLan being ranked in 71st place nationally and 1,282nd worldwide which places them in the top 6.8 per cent of universities worldwide.
In a letter to the University, the CWUR President Dr Nadim Mahassen congratulated UCLan for an ‘outstanding achievement’. ....

The Department of Higher Education and Training’s (DHET) recent Report on the Evaluation of the 2019 Universities’ Research Output has led to some excitement with various claims made about the positioning of certain universities in comparison to others.
The DHET’s research outputs policy encourages universities to engage in research. On an annual basis university research outputs are evaluated and generate research outputs subsidies, intended to provide operational funds to support and stimulate research activity. ....

Aging-US: High-CBD Cannabis sativa extracts modulate ACE2 expression in COVID-19

Working under a Health Canada research license, the
Aging-US authors developed over 800 new
C. sativa cultivars and hypothesized that high-CBD
C. sativa extracts may be used to down-regulate ACE2 expression in target COVID-19 tissues.
Using artificial 3D human models of oral, airway and intestinal tissues, they identified 13 high-CBD
C. sativa extracts that decrease ACE2 protein levels.
Some
C. sativa extracts down-regulate serine protease TMPRSS2, another critical protein required for SARS-CoV-2 entry into host cells.
While their most effective extracts require further large-scale validation, their study is important for future analyses of the effects of medical cannabis on COVID-19. The extracts of their most successful novel high-CBD ....

Aging-US published DNA- and telomere-damage does not limit lifespan: evidence from rapamycin which reported that failure of rapamycin to extend lifespan in DNA repair mutant and telomerase-knockout mice, while extending lifespan in normal mice, indicates that neither DNA damage nor telomere shortening limits normal lifespan or causes normal aging.
Dr. Mikhail V. Blagosklonny said, As a provocative title has recently announced, rapamycin fails to extend lifespan in DNA repair -deficient mice [1]. The word fails implies bad news. Rapamycin tried but failed. Yet, it is expected that the anti-aging ....
