Citizen's group calls for exotic animal laws in Ontario amid lion breeding controversy

A citizen s group in the Municipality of Hastings Highlands is calling on the provincial government to create legislation governing the ownership of exotic animals after a controversial roadside zoo began breeding lions in their community.
When the Drysdales left Grand Bend, it marked the end of a bitter 18-month battle between the couple and the local council over the right to house and publicly display exotic animals in a residential neighbourhood. ....

Faraday passes Exotic Animal Bylaw | Bancroft this Week

Faraday Township council passed its own Exotic Animal Bylaw at its meeting on May 5. Other townships across Hastings County like Limerick Township have been passing their own similar bylaws over the past few months to preclude the keeping of exotic animals within their municipal borders. These bylaws are based upon a template provided by Hastings County for this purpose. After a brief discussion, council passed bylaw 18-2021, the Exotic Animal Bylaw for Faraday Township.
Faraday Township had posted notice of intent on its website of the impending bylaw passage on April 15, pursuant to section 11, subsection 3 of the Municipal Act 2001. With the controversy that has arisen from the Drysdale family in Hastings Highlands having exotic animals and wanting to keep them on their property, municipalities in the area like Limerick Township have been passing their own Exotic Animal Bylaws. OPP Looking for Missing Boater on Mink Lake

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Team is looking for a missing person on Mink Lake.
Police responded to a report of an unoccupied boat circling Mink Lake in Hastings Highlands on Sunday around 6:30 PM. They are searching for a 68-year-old resident of Ajax. An initial search by the Bancroft OPP and the Hastings Highlands Fire Department turned up with nothing.
The search continues Monday with aid from the OPP’s helicopter team and the Bancroft detachment. No other details were given. ....

Tracy Hagar To Officially Stay On As Hastings Highlands Mayor

Hastings Highlands is sticking with Tracy Hagar as its official Mayor
At their latest meeting, town council appointed Hagar to the role.
Hagar’s held the position on an interim basis since the resignation of Vic Bodnar last month.
She says it’s a reassuring feeling knowing she has support from the council.
“I did not know that I would actually get the position,” Hagar said. “I did have to go through an interview process because there were two of us, but it’s definitely a big relief now that that’s over.”
