Faraday Township council passed its own Exotic Animal Bylaw at its meeting on May 5. Other townships across Hastings County like Limerick Township have been passing their own similar bylaws over the past few months to preclude the keeping of exotic animals within their municipal borders. Faraday Township had posted notice of intent on its website of the impending bylaw passage on April 15, pursuant to section 11, subsection 3 of the Municipal Act 2001. With the controversy that has arisen from the Drysdale family in Hastings Highlands having exotic animals and wanting to keep them on their property, municipalities in the area like Limerick Township have been passing their own Exotic Animal Bylaws. According to Baseball for Dad’s Louri Snider, this was done at the direction of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health. Snider hopes to reschedule the event for sometime later this summer or in the fall.
Baseball for Dad is a non-profit charity set up in honour of Mark Snider who tragically lost his battle with mental illness, taking his own life in 2019. It was set up in Mark’s honour by his mom Louri, to take the stigma away from mental illness. Since their inception, they’ve come up with a plethora of initiatives like placing baseball gloves around the world (as baseball was Mark’s favourite sport), the Buddy Bench program, their Kindness Moose program and their Moosing Around party rental business. ....

Jessica Anderson, Executive Director with NHCS says the organization was very happy to hear the announcement, and it will support a lot of families. The main issue before was that subsidies didn’t support many working families with dual income, as the income needed to apply is very low. Anderson predicts two-thirds of families had to pay the full cost of their childcare services. That meant that someone with an infant and a preschooler would expect to pay $2,000 in childcare a month. As families would have to weigh the costs of staying home with the kids or paying the high price of childcare, many workers, mainly women, would be kept out of the workforce.
