Hesperia shootout suspect pleads not guilty to 5 felonies

A 39-year-old Hesperia man allegedly caught on video in a shootout after trying to force entry into a victim’s home pleaded not guilty to five felonies Wednesday, including murder.
While court records show that prosecutors charged Erick Javier Contreras with murder, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Taylor Reynolds, of the Hesperia station, said Contreras is not accused of murder, but attempted murder.
An inquiry left with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office was not returned Thursday.
“In regard to his charges, it should be attempted murder for the incident,” Reynolds said in an email Thursday. ....

Surveillance video from a Hesperia, California, home shows a shootout Monday morning between a homeowner and an alleged intruder.
ABC 7 reports that homeowner says he awoke to the sound of someone trying to kick in his front door.
The homeowner said, “I see him – he’s trying to kick the door in, demanding to come in. Then I see him pull out a gun.”
The homeowner responded by putting his family in a room away from the front door, then grabbing a gun and running to confront the alleged intruder.

A newly built mixed-income, mixed-use housing development opened on Monday in Grove Hall. Named The Clarion, the building not only brings income-restricted units to the neighborhood but it will also serve as home to Future Chefs, an organization that prepares teens for success after high school through culinary and job-readiness skills training.
Located at 311 Blue Hill Ave., The Clarion includes 39 units of rental housing, 32 of them income-restricted units at a range of income levels and the other 7 at market rate. The building also houses 5,750 square feet of commercial space on the first floor, the new home of Future Chefs. ....

A 39 unit mixed-income, mixed-use development in the Grove Hall neighborhood will also be a new home to the youth development nonprofit, Future Chefs.
Mayor Martin J. Walsh, developer The Community Builders (TCB) and non-profit Future Chef’s today announced the opening of The Clarion, a mixed-income, mixed-use housing development in Grove Hall. This residence consists of 39 units of rental housing, including 32 income restricted units at a range of income levels and 7 market-rate units. The building includes 5,750 square feet of commercial space on the first floor which is the new home of Future Chefs, a youth development non-profit that uses a work-based learning model to engage teens in paid work to develop culinary and essential life skills, setting youth up for successful careers in any field they choose. The Clarion also meets rigorous energy-efficient goals and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certified building. ....

Victim expected to survive weekend Schenectady shooting

SCHENECTADY - Police in Schenectady are investigating a shooting from the weekend.
Officers say a 31-year-old man was shot on Albany Street around 8 p.m. Sunday night.
The man was treated on scene and taken to Albany Med.
Injuries are not life-threatening.
