(Brendan LaChance, Oil City) CASPER, Wyo. The Casper City Council voted in favor of granting a bar and grill license to the Spotlight Lounge on Tuesday, August 3. The council voted 6-1 in favor of the business’s request with Council member Steve Cathey voting no. Council member Amber Pollock abstained from the vote. Council member Khrystyn Lutz was absent. The Spotlight Lounge wants the bar and grill licenses for 128 East Second St., the former location of the Downtown Grill & Venue where they plan to open in the next couple of weeks. ....

LGBTQ Committee Offers Recommendations to Casper City Council Get our free mobile app The committee, which was established last year to look into what the city could do to better address issues raised by community members, offered two recommendations to city council. One recommendation was to create a ordinance against discrimination based on gender identity and sexual preference, similar to what has been done in Laramie and Jackson, and the other recommendation is a program for businesses to put stickers in their windows signifying their support for the LGBTQ community. Kody Allen-Sambrano, one of the members of the committee, said the sticker program would help bolster the relationship between the LGBTQ community and police department. ....
Casper Council Works on Possible Scooter Ordinance Get our free mobile app While many of the changes involved adding limitations for scooters in places where bikes already were, one notable sticking point was an exclusion zone downtown, from Casper rail trail up to east A street, between north Beech street and south David street. Henly said the area was created for where scooters are not allowed in order to ensure safety, however many council members expressed concern that it would discourage people from using scooters at all. Council member Bruce Knell said it seemed unnecessary to have the boundary, as he had ridden around on electric scooters in Austin and didn t have an issue with cars driving around at 40 miles per hour, compared to 20 in downtown Casper. ....
