Givealittle/Supplied Sagaia Kaisala died after being run over in Māngere Bridge while trying to help a colleague who was being attacked. “I didn’t want to die, I want to fight with my life,” she said earlier in the trial. “I was calling someone to help me . I tried to kick him out from me and I know I’m going to die that day.” Niumagumagu then ran Matamua’s colleague Abdul Riyaz down with his car, the court heard. Riyaz said he “flew over the car”, and the next thing he knew he was sitting at Middlemore Hospital with blood on his head.

Māngere Bridge murder trial: Defendant could have 'simply driven away', Crown says

While defence lawyer, Sharyn Green said while this was a terrible tragedy, Niumagumagu did not intend to kill Kaisala. Over the last few weeks, the court has heard from a number of witnesses present at the incident at Oji Fibre Solutions in Māngere Bridge, south Auckland. Givealittle/Supplied Sagaia Kaisala died after being run over. In the weeks leading up to the incident, the Crown says there was clear evidence the defendant had shown a desire for violence against his ex-wife, telling his co-workers he wanted to shoot or stab her. He was angry and in pain and wanted to “finish things”.
