Māngere Bridge death: Man guilty of manslaughter after running good Samaritan down

Sagaia Kaisala died after being run over in Māngere Bridge while trying to help a colleague who was being attacked.
“I didn’t want to die, I want to fight with my life,” she said earlier in the trial.
“I was calling someone to help me ... I tried to kick him out from me and I know I’m going to die that day.”
Niumagumagu​ then ran Matamua’s colleague Abdul Riyaz​ down with his car, the court heard.
Riyaz said he “flew over the car”, and the next thing he knew he was sitting at Middlemore Hospital with blood on his head.
