An area that has been hit hard by covid. For some Community Members say this site is months too late. Its frustrating. Reporter the Health Committee chairman with the Latino Task Force wants to know why serving the people caring the highest rates of infection in the southeast part of the city took so long. Why is there not more. Thats my other question. And why did we have them six months ago . Weve known since april that the highest rates of infection have been in the bay view, the Mission District and the excelsior. Yet, up until this site, the city had two of its largest facilities at 7 p. M. Brandon. Reporter Health Officials say that they are trying to expand services to areas that needed the most. A lot of the jobs that have been lost since the pandemic are being recovered. No question it was a much better number than was expected with the headline being 1. 4 million jobs added and the Unemployment Rate going below double digits for the First Time Since the pandemic adding it all up we now have recovered since april a total of about 10. 6 million jobs, which is huge progress, but it also leaves a huge hole we still have 11. 5 million fewer jobs than we had in february which was the month before the pandemic so weve still got to dig ourselves out of the hole and weve still got to look at the permanent impact of all of this. One in the numbers i went to first in this report is the number of people seeing permanent job losses it did rise by about half a million. Its 3. 4 million so that is the highest level since 2013 and does point to the fact that there is going to be some permanent scarring despite the fact, carl, that we are seeing progress, its moving in the right direction. Airconditioning. 10 00 p. M. Tonight, low 80s. Tomorrow, 9 00 a. M. We remain in the 70s. Not going to be quite as hot tomorrow but we will still hit the century mark. We will have more details on exactly how hot and what it will look like at the beaches. I will have that in about 15 minutes. Thank you very much. The heat is creating a double whammy for restaurant restrictions, and now its more than 100 degrees outside. The answer for hundreds of bay area businesses today was to improvise and grin and bear it. Reporter good evening. You have to give morgan hill credit, they know how to handle the high heat. Nail salons, and restaurants, and they all have had to adjust outside and today adjusting more. Temperatures topping 100 degrees could not stop fitness buffs at this recreational center, they had a cool backup plan. I will be here lifting weights under the solar panel shade, and then i will go and swim the next hour. Shade, water and smaller crowds than usual with safety as a priori
