Anavia Battle Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Anavia Battle, Ohio State track and field’s outstanding All-American and seven-time Big Ten Conference champion, has earned the initial women’s track athlete of the week honor by the conference. The Big Ten made the announcement on Wednesday.
Battle, a senior from Inkster, Mich., and Wayne Memorial High School who is majoring in human development and family studies, returned to her home state to compete in the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invite, hosted by the University Michigan, and came away with two wins in two races and two meet records.
The 2020 Big Ten indoor track athlete of the championships and the year, Battle broke the Simmons-Harvey record by winning the 60-meter dash in 7.35, breaking teammate Devine Parker’s year-old mark of 7.37. And later in the afternoon Battle broke her own Simmons-Harvey meet record at 200 meters (23.50 in 2019) by cruising to a win in 23.26. ....

Razorbacks display talent in winning Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Displaying quality and depth in various events, the Razorbacks opened the 2021 campaign with a dominant victory in the Arkansas Invitational held Saturday inside Randal Tyson Track Center.
Totaling 229 points, the Razorbacks topped a seven-team field which included Oklahoma (118), Arkansas State (61), and Harding (30).
“No. 1 we’re super excited we got our opener out of the way and everybody is healthy,” noted Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “It’s a good, strong indicator that people took care of themselves during the holidays.
“Next week we’ll see some great competition and we look forward to continuing to evolve and handle the challenges that are yet to come.” ....

Noles Begin Season at Gamecock Opener
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team starts its 2021 indoor season this Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Gamecock Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Saturday’s meet marks the first time FSU has competed since Feb. 2020.
“We’re really excited to be competing again.” said Florida State head coach Bob Braman. “It’s been 321 long days since our last competition.  This is a very good opening meet for us. South Carolina has a great facility and we’re hoping for some good performances.” ....

Jackets Close Out Clemson Invite


Alexis Kitchens, were Tech’s four podium finishers during the last events of the Invite.
Walls, the Jackets top performer on the day, placed second in the women’s 3000m crossing the finish line at 10:04.87. The Clemson Invite was the true freshman’s second collegiate meet of her career. Six Tech runners placed in the top-10 in the 3000m, as
 McKnight joined Walls on the podium taking third with a time of 10:14.91.
Kitchens set a personal best time in the 200m as she sprinted to a 24.97 third-place performance. She earned three personal best marks in three separate events throughout the Invite in the 200m, 60m (7.67) and long jump (5.74m/18’10”) ....

Strong Day One at Clemson Invite for Tech


CLEMSON, S.C. – Georgia Tech track & field returned to The Palmetto State for the second consecutive weekend competing at the first day of the 2021 Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets faced host Clemson, Kennesaw State and Georgia in Tech’s second indoor meet of the year.

Lydia Troupe was the Jackets lone first-place performer at day one of the Invite taking gold in the 400m dash with a time of 57.20 to set a personal record in that event. Last weekend at the Orange & Purple Elite Meet Troupe placed first in the 800m, making Friday’s race her second first-place performance of the 2021 indoor season. Highlighting the men’s action, three Yellow Jacket men earned silver as sophomore sprinter ....
