but, first, tragedy in the bronx after fire claims the lives of two young sisters. now police are questioning whether the children were left alone when the flames broke out. cbs 2 s janelle burrell has more now from clairmont. reporter: it was inside this charred, gutted third-floor apartment in the butler houses where neighbors first spotted the fire just before 7:00 p.m. wednesday, the toddler sisters were trapped, surrounded by flames and thick smoke. so as we looked out, we saw the a.c., it burst into flames right here out the window. reporter: despite their best effort, the conditions made it im efforts, the conditions made it impossible to reach 2- year-old an 18-year-old aman a jabbi we heard kids crying, but it was too black, we couldn t breathe. reporter: the family next door couldn t escape either, putting wet towels underneath their door until help arrived. when i opened the door, i saw a whole bunch of black smoke and i closed the door back. reporter
