Salavantis to resign as district attorney to run for Luzerne County judge

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis ended months of speculation Tuesday by announcing she’s resigning to run for Luzerne County judge this year.
The three-term Republican prosecutor plans to seek one of two open seats on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of Luzerne County as district attorney and I will continue to serve the public interest if elected as judge,” Salavantis said in a news release.
Salavantis said she will resign after the nominating petition process is complete.
Candidates can start circulating nominating petitions Feb. 16 to get on the ballot for the May 18 primary election. The deadline to file nominating petitions is March 9. ....

West Pittston-based attorney Laura Dennis announces bid for Luzerne County judge


West Pittston-based attorney Laura Dennis announced Monday night she is running for Luzerne County judge this year, making her the second candidate to officially enter the race.
“I’ve practiced law for close to two and half decades in civil, criminal, family, juvenile, and orphan’s courts. I know my way around a courtroom and I know the judicial system inside and out,” Dennis said in a statement.
Dennis has 23 years of experience as a lawyer, having opened her West Pittston law practice in 1998.
“I’ve had the privilege of representing clients from all walks of life in all types of cases. I approach every case with a profound sense of responsibility and commitment to the people I represent. However, none of that matters if you end up in front of an unfair judge,” Dennis said. “I know firsthand how important it is that everyone in a courtroom be treated equitably and given the opportunity to be heard — and that is exactly the ....
