The Health Resources and Services Administration is taking action against pharmaceutical manufacturers that refuse to provide rural healthcare providers with discounted prescription drugs.
The 340B Drug Pricing Program has a demonstrated record of protecting patients who are low-income, live in underserved communities, or suffer from serious chronic illnesses. However, some drug manufacturers have stopped honoring 340B discounts for drugs dispensed through pharmacies that contracted with 340B providers dramatically increasing the price of those drugs for vulnerable patients and providers. ....

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Roughly 45-50% of adults in Albemarle County and Charlottesville are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus according to UVA Health. Now, the vaccine supply in the area is starting to outpace demand.
Dr. Costi Sifri says a switch has been flipped: “I don’t think we’re seeing a plateau yet, but we are seeing a point in time now where the supply of vaccine is exceeding demand,” the doctor said. “The vaccine rates for new vaccinations, for first dose vaccinations, is starting to drop nationwide, and we’re seeing a bit of that here in our area.” ....

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - UVA Health says it administered its 100,000th vaccine dose Thursday, April 29. Additionally, more than 42,800 people have been fully vaccinated through UVA Health.
“Reaching the 100,000-vaccine mark is an incredible achievement, and I want to thank our partners in the community and at the Blue Ridge Health District for helping us serve all of the people in our community and the region,” K. Craig Kent, MD, executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer for UVA Health, said in a news release Thursday. ....

CHARLOTTESVILLE, April 29, 2021 – UVA Health reached a major milestone in its efforts to vaccinate Central Virginia against COVID-19, administering its 100,000th vaccine dose Thursday afternoon. More than 42,800 people have been fully vaccinated through UVA Health.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - UVA Health is expanding its operations to increase the capacity of the hospital system.
On Friday, April 16, UVA Health officially acquired the Monticello Community Surgery Center next to the UVA Primary Care Riverside on U.S. Route 29 in Albemarle County. This outpatient center has four operating rooms and one procedure room.
“We know that we need this additional capacity to really serve the community and we know it’s also going to help reduce wait times for various surgical procedures, and it’s also going to free up our capacity and our main operating rooms to really serve the most complex, the sickest patients both within Charlottesville and all throughout the commonwealth,” University of Virginia Medical Center CEO Wendy Ho ....
