CHARLOTTESVILLE, April 29, 2021 – UVA Health reached a major milestone in its efforts to vaccinate Central Virginia against COVID-19, administering its 100,000th vaccine dose Thursday afternoon. More than 42,800 people have been fully vaccinated through UVA Health.
“Reaching the 100,000-vaccine mark is an incredible achievement, and I want to thank our partners in the community and at the Blue Ridge Health District for helping us serve all of the people in our community and the region,” said K. Craig Kent, MD, UVA’s executive vice president for health affairs and chief executive officer for UVA Health. ....

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – The Blue Ridge Health District is partnering with UVa Health having opened another remote COVID vaccination tent along the 29 corridor. UVa Health’s Director of Hospital Epidemiology, Dr. Costi Sifri, says this second vaccination location is at Seminole Square Shopping Center between the Marshalls and Ferguson stores. He says they’re there at the direction of the BRHD… and community members helped choose this location because it’s on the bus line and easily accessible. In fact, JAUNT and CAT are offering no-cost transportation to take individuals to and from Seminole Square vaccination appointments. ....

From the newsroom: Charlottesville Inclusive Media project receives $150,000 from Google GNI Innovation Challenge

Charlottesville Tomorrow, in partnership with Vinegar Hill Magazine and In My Humble Opinion talk show, has received $150,000 through the Google GNI Innovation Challenge to augment the launch of the recently established Charlottesville Inclusive Media project (CIM). The CIM partnership is one of 33 media projects to receive the GNI funding out of a pool of 215 applicants.
“The funding is an innovation challenge and we are excited that Google’s team recognized the potential of a collaboration between nonprofit public service journalism and independent for profit Black media companies to change the way African American audiences and communities are represented in local media,” said Charlottesville Tomorrow News Editor Elliott Robinson. ....
