Residents 56 and over invited for covid vaccine and attention turns to second doses WARRINGTON residents aged 56 and over and unpaid carers are now being invited to book their coronavirus vaccinations. The roll-out of the vaccine in the town continues to progress well, with more than 70,000 people having received their jabs. Attention is also turning to administering second ‘booster’ vaccinations to those who have already received their first doses. In addition, GP-led vaccination services are currently working hard to vaccinate people aged between 16 and 64 who are in an at-risk group. Residents aged 56 and over and unpaid carers can book a vaccination at one of the Bewsey Pharmacy, Appleton Pharmacy or Village Hotel sites, or the mass vaccination centre at St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium, by visiting nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by calling 119. ....

It was imposed back on January 5 in an attempt to bring spiralling rates of Covid-19 infection under control and to flatten the curve of new cases. Since then, case numbers in Warrington have fallen substantially, and after a sharp rise, coronavirus hospital admissions are starting to settle. More than 90 per cent of residents aged 80 and above have received first vaccine dose AROUND 91 per cent of Warrington residents aged 80 and above have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The news comes as the town steps up its vaccination programme in size and speed, with 40,000 vaccinations expected to have been completed by the end of this week. For those in the 75-79 age bracket, 90 per cent have received their jab, while 79 per cent of the town’s frontline health and social care workers have also been vaccinated. Warrington is making good progress on the next two priority groups – people aged between 70 and 74 and those classed as clinically extremely vulnerable – with 62 per cent and 63 per cent of each group being vaccinated so far respectively. ....

Warrington Voluntary Action (WVA) has played a pivotal role in mobilising volunteers across the borough in response to the pandemic. Since March, a total of 1,630 Covid-19 response volunteers have been recruited, uploaded to its volunteer database and deployed. Alison Cullen, from the organisation, provided an updated to the building stronger communities policy committee during its virtual meeting on Wednesday. WVA is providing a co-ordinated approach through a bank of volunteers deployed across the borough, enabling and supporting people to engage in a valuable and meaningful role within the community. ....
