BOONTON Family and friends mourned the death of a father two months after his wife and 11-year-old son accidentally drowned in the Rockaway River. On Tuesday, Boonton s Islamic community remembered the life of Zeeshan Hamayun, who died after a battle with cancer. Among those mourning was his 6-year-old son, Unais Ahmed, who in February watched as his mother, Warda Syed, tried to save her older son, Uzair Ahmed, from drowning in the river. Unais cries at the scene of the accident alerted authorities to the incident. It s just so painful to see a family have two [incidents ofdeaths in basically 60 days, said Gul Khan, coordinator for the Morris County Islamic Centers and founder of Different Faiths One Family. Death of mother, son in Boonton pond ruled accidental The deaths of a mother and her young son in a Boonton park pond have been ruled accidental. After 35-year-old Warda Syed s 6-year-old son was found crying for his mother in her parked car on Feb. 23, police tracked footprints to the edge of the Rockaway River. They discovered the bodies of Syed and her son Uzair Ahmed,11, in the water in the Upper Pond section of the Grace Lord Park. Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said the manner of death was determined by the Morris County Medical Examiner to be accidental and no criminal activity was involved. Carrol did not provide details about how they wound up in the water. ....
Warda Syed, 35, and her 11-year-old son, Uzair Ahmed, were discovered in a pond in the Upper Pond section of Grace Lord Park in Boonton around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 23. A 6-year-old boy, also confirmed to be Syed s child, was at the scene unharmed. A law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the case told News 4 he was screaming for his mother, which prompted others to call 911. Syed and her children are all Boonton residents. She was a substitute teacher with the town school system, and worked in the after-school care program as well.
