Death of mother, son in Boonton pond ruled accidental
The deaths of a mother and her young son in a Boonton park pond have been ruled accidental.
After 35-year-old Warda Syed s 6-year-old son was found crying for his mother in her parked car on Feb. 23, police tracked footprints to the edge of the Rockaway River. They discovered the bodies of Syed and her son Uzair Ahmed,11, in the water in the Upper Pond section of the Grace Lord Park.
Acting Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll said the manner of death was determined by the Morris County Medical Examiner to be accidental and no criminal activity was involved. Carrol did not provide details about how they wound up in the water.

The deaths of a mother and her 11-year-old son who were found in a river in Boonton’s Grace Lord Park last week were ruled accidental by the Morris County Medical Examiner, authorities announced Tuesday afternoon.
Last week, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office identified Warda Syed, 35, and her son Uzair Ahmed, 11, as the woman and child pulled from the Rockaway River on the night of Feb. 23. A second child, a 6-year-old boy, found standing at the bank of the river was also confirmed as Syed’s son.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office identified Warda Syed, 35, and her son Uzair Ahmed, 11, both of Boonton, as the woman and child pulled from the Rockaway River in Grace Lord Park late Tuesday night.
A second child, a 6-year-old boy, found at the scene was also confirmed as Syed’s son, the office said. The child’s name was not going to be released, the office said.
