On fire. and it looks like some structural pieces, aerodynamic surfaces, were missing. there are some reports i ve been reading that maybe some piece of the rear section, perhaps the vertical stabilizer, or tail, was missing. i think what you have to assume in this case is that an aircraft like this, as you pointed out, they just don t catastrophically drop out of the sky without something very unusual happening. so, i would think that investigators in this case, to the extent that it will be investigated in russia, will be looking at an explosion either inside the aircraft or outside it. inside a bomb. outside would be some kind of missile. obviously if there was a missile, steve, would u.s. intelligence or some, you know, ally intelligence service be able to pick that up? yeah, absolutely. i mean, i m sure all of allied western intelligence service is trying to figure out what the ....
Different than a drift pattern over 500 days. so i think that s going to really be the science behind trying to figure out where it originated, where the main wreckage was in comparison to the drift pattern and the time that this part has been adrift. and, greg what could potentially be learned about the causes? i know you don t have any you don t know where the rest of the plane is but in studying the flaperon can you figure out what the angle was when it hit the water or what kind of break up this was, whether it was an explosion or not an explosion? you really can t, andrea. when you look at the entire airplane, this is not a robust structure like the vertical stabilizer, the horizontal stabilizer and the wings and fuselage. this is a movable part. it s hinged. so it is frangible and will break up during impact. what it will tell investigators ....
Images, which is clearly the tail. the tail is also the vertical stabilizer which is what they have found. that is attached to the rear of the plane, or the tail if you like. whether that they discovered the vertical stabilizer and the horizontal stabilizer is unclear. it s the rear which is where the black boxes are. it s interesting, this tail if you like to use their terminology, has been discover theed away from the original area where we understand there were four or five large debris pieces. it s a bit cloudy as to what we are dealing with here. but there s a possibility here that the tail may have come away the vertical stabilizer may have come away from the aircraft in that violent ....
On it. if the tale is even still exact, what would that tell but how the plane went down? what thatted in those last moments? how controlled could it have been? it could have been going down in a flat spin. the tail section separated. as a matter of fact the vertical stabilizer the fin which goes in the top of the tail section, was floating in the ocean and was discovered a couple days after the crash. it was quite some time however, before they found the flight date recorder the cockpit voice recorder which of course was beneath the ocean. so it is unclear. when they say they got the tail do they have the stabilizer. i don t think we can come to a conclusion that it broke up mid air. it could have broken up on impact with the water. a final word david. about the tail? yeah. how it went down. well in that particular aircraft as opposed to the 777, ....
Was it with the plane or distance away. if the plane broke uppen flight. vertical stabilizer. was torn away from the plane. that would that would give us more indications about what actually happened to the aircraft. what does all that mean for the black boxes. would they have been ejected from the plane or yet to be known. they re in the fuselage part of the tail. stablizing part of the tail the tailfin. and, it has happened in the past. that in violent turbulence, up upsets. with storms. mountain waves. the tail of the airplane is ....
