Crime against humanity: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slams UP govt, SEC for conducting Panchayat polls amid COVID-19 crisis


The Congress leader claimed that several people are dying in rural homes but the fatalities are not registered as coronavirus-related deaths as people are not being tested. 
“People are dying in homes across rural UP, and these deaths are not being counted as COVID because people aren’t being tested,” she alleged. 
Further, slamming the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government, Vadra said, “The government’s actions are designed to cover up the truth and terrorise both the public and the medical community, which is working tirelessly to save lives. What is happening in UP is nothing less than a crime against humanity and the SEC UP is playing along,” she asserted.   ....

UP panchayat election 2021: Voting in over 2.10 lakh seats across 17 districts in fourth phase today


Highlights
Over 5.27 lakh candidates are in the fray for more than 2.10 lakh seats across 17 districts in this round of the election
There are 10,679 candidates in the fray for 738 posts of Zila panchayat members in the final phase
A total of 55,408 candidates are contesting for 18,356 posts of kshetra panchayat members
Lucknow: The voting in the fourth and final phase of the Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections will be held on Thursday (April 29) amid the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. 
Over 5.27 lakh candidates are in the fray for more than 2.10 lakh seats across 17 districts in this round of the election.
More than 2.98 crore voters will be casting their votes in the fourth and last phase of the polls which will be held from 7 am to 6 pm, officials said. ....

Ram Krishna Pandey feels his father Pankaj Pandey’s death could have been averted had the Uttar Pradesh panchayat polls been postponed keeping in mind the second wave of COVID-19. Pankaj Pandey, a head clerk with the Basic Education Department in Pratapgarh, died on April 26 after suffering from COVID-19-related complications and a drop in his oxygen levels. While the disease got his father, Mr. Ram Krishna blames the situation in which his father was forced to work. “He died because of the election,” said Mr. Ram ....

More than 2.72 lakh candidates in the fray
About 10.27 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the first two hours for the third phase of the panchayat elections which began on Monday, April 26, 2021, with more than 2.72 lakh candidates in the fray in over 2.14 lakh seats across 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Polling is underway in Shamli, Meerut, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Kasganj, Firozabad, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, Unnao, Amethi, Barabanki, Balrampur, Siddharthanagar, Deoria, Chandauli, Mirzapur and Ballia.
Voting started at 7 am on a peaceful note. It will continue till 6 pm. In the first two hours (till 9 am) 10.27 per cent voting was done, a State Election Commission (SEC) official said here. ....

West Bengal state assembly elections will enter their seventh phase today. 34 Assembly seats are going to polls on Monday (April 26) including four in South Kolkata. The polls in Jangipur, Samserganj seats in Murshidabad have been postponed to May 16 following the demise of candidates with coronavirus.

West Bengal is going for the last but one round of polling of the eight-phase elections on Monday where 34 Assembly constituencies spread across five districts are going for polls.
