MANILA - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Monday announced the arrest of a total of 17,946 violators in its aggressive operations against all forms of criminality. In a statement, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said during the period Aug. 29 to Sept. 4, a total of 17,761 violators of city ordinances were recorded wherein 508 were accosted for smoking in public places; 39 for roaming half-naked in public places; 2,667 for not wearing face mask; 9,518 for the improper wearing of face mask; 524 for jaywalking; 4,211 for traffic violations; 151 for illegal vendor and 143 for specific ordinances wherein 16,312 were warned while 1,449 were fined. A total of 61 wanted persons were also arrested 23 of whom were listed as Most Wanted Persons. In the same period, 32 drug operations were conducted which resulted in the arrest of 72 drug personalities and confiscation of PHP999,124 worth of shabu and PHP11,400 worth of marijuana. Razon MANILA - The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday said the wearing of face masks decreases the possibility of infection by 70 to 80 percent, reminding Filipinos not to be complacent with the dropping number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases. "Hanggang sa hindi pa natin naaabot ang gusto nating rate para sa bakunahan para maipataas ang immunity ng ating populasyon, sana lahat tayo na Pilipino nagkakaisa na ipatupad muna natin ang mask mandates natin (I hope all Filipinos will cooperate about the implementation of our mask mandates until we haven't reached the vaccination rate we want to increase our population's immunity)," DOH officer-in-charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in media briefing. MANILA - Malacanang on Tuesday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) to investigate the release of a "fake" document supposedly announcing the appointment of a new commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration (BI). The Palace earlier said no document for the said position has been issued by the Presidential Management Staff, Office of the Executive Secretary, or the Office of the President. "Nag-utos [ang Palasyo] ng imbestigasyon sa NBI and PNP through their respective secretaries, [Justice] Secretary [Jesus Crispin] Remulla and [Interior Secretary] Benhur Abalos," Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced in a Palace press briefing. The NBI is a line agency of the Department of Justice while the PNP is an agency under the Department of the Interior and Local Government. LEGAZPI CITY - Government anti-narcotics operatives on Tuesday arrested a recidivist, seizing from him some PHP680,000 worth of shabu in a buy-bust in Pilar, Sorsogon. In a statement, Maj. Malu Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-Bicol (PRO5) spokesperson, said John Paul Estropia a.k.a. "Paul", 31, of Barangay Tabi, Gubat, Sorsogon, yielded some 100 grams of suspected shabu during the operation. "He is a recidivist listed under persons who use drugs," Calubaquib said. "This accomplishment is yet another manifestation of the PRO's commitment to eradicate illegal drugs in the region. The unit headed by Brig. Gen.
