READING â Budget fantasy took precedent over town realities as department heads laid out their Christmas wish list for FY22 Tuesday night. The Reading Select Board heard presentations on facilities, public services, public safety, and capital/debt all coming with a mandate from Town Manager Bob LeLacheur to âcreate a budget as if money was no object.â Last week the board heard presentations from the library, administrative services, finance, public works, and enterprise funds. Itâs all part of the process that will lead to the FY22 budget for Reading. Like previous budget discussions, Tuesdayâs virtual meeting was filled with big numbers and colorful charts. READING â The Town of Reading will offer emergency mortgage and rent relief to households under a new joint initiative with Reading Co-Operative Bankâs charitable foundation. According to Reading Business Administrator Jayne Wellman, eligible receiptients under the grant program could receive as much as $5,000 in financial assistance to cover up to two-months worth of rent or mortgage payments. Those interested in applying for the special relief, which will come from a limited amount of federal COVID-19 aid available to the municipality, must fill out an application no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 21.
