Expire, so you ve got to say, this is our best guess now. their best guess is a remote area more than twice the size of california. good morning. these are all the aircraft flying today. the australians take over the search. and soon after the australian ship ocean shield lowers its pinger locater into the water, pings are detected. clearly this is a most promising lead. it was wow again. it was miraculous. they had just put the towed pinger locater into the water. i was convinced, this is it. they ve got the answer. it s a matter of days. a robotic submarine scours the 329 square mile area where the pings were heard. it s painstakingly slow work. then two months later a massive setback in the search for malaysia airlines flight 370. ....

That s unclear. i think it really depends on how long it takes for the bluefin to continue searching or finish searches, rather, this very narrowed area that s really critical to rule in or rule out this current search area because it s been identified by officials as the most likely place that they re going to find the black box based on the albeit very limited information that they have. they re focusing in on the second ping that was picked up by that towed pinger locater on april 8th. it was the strongest of the four signals detected so what they re doing right now is scanning a 6-mile radius around the point of that detection. we know they have searched about two thirds of that area so far. australian officials saying that it could be within the next week that they complete that search. ....

Hour? reporter: hi, this is a really critical few next few days in this search operation. they re looking at the place which basically representing their best guess to find the black box based on exhaustive analysis of that those acoustics detections, the second in particular picked up american operated towed pinger locater. it was the stronger of the four. so what they re doing now is they re searching a six-mile radius around that point. and officials say that as of this morning, there are about two thirds of the way through searching this narrowed search area, not clear how much ground to be able to cover so far today and australian officials saying that they expect to have completed this area within the next week. at that point, they ll stop and assess. now, timetable is dependent on a ....

Find something dramatically decreases. i think it s not fair to compare this to air france 447. we are supposedly looking for pings. these pings, the acoustic the towed pinger locater only has a range of one two miles tops. this should be a very compact area. it should have already have been searched. we should have already ruled out the pings were from the mh-370. i want to get to jim tilmon now. this is a huge question and maybe the most important question especially when it comes to dollars. the top adviser said the search could cost a quarter of a billion dollars. that s in u.s. money. who should foot the bill for this because depending on how much it costs and who foots the bill is how long the search will go on. that s what will determine that? this situation is one that affects all aviation, particularly commercial aviation over this entire planet. ....
