studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. good morning, everybody. welcome to today on this tuesday morning. you re just back from orlando. it s been so moving to see these tributes to the victims. there s so much sadness down there. i m sure it is heart warming to people in orlando knowing people in other countries are keeping them in their prayers. hopefully that is some comfort. we want to get right to overnight developments. police have identified the 49th and final victim. there s a glimmer of hope this morning. one of the hospitals treating the wounded says all patients have a positive prognosis and do appear to be improving. that s really good news. last night nearly 8,000 people gathered in downtown orlando to support the victims and survivors of the massacre. the bell tolled 49 times, one for each life lost. and the fbi is telling nbc news it is investigating claims that gunman omar mateen frequented that pulse nightclub in the past and that mateen may have profi
flames knocked down. once those flames are knocked down, the chief will allow the firefighters to go into the buildings to put out hotspots and, again, make sure there s nobody injured or in need of assistance. reporter: at this time there s no indications of anyone injured or killed? no indications of anyone injured or killed. reporter: do you know what building it started in? no. that will be determined by the investigator task force. the initial reports were towards the rear of 3300, which would also be towards the rear of 3306. somewhere in that general area is what the initial reports were. but until we get the investigation, the cause and the origin, we re not going to be able to pinpoint the exact location. reporter: so eight buildings and evacuations in place? yes, extending for the 3300 block of mission street to 3366 mission, as well as the two buildings on 29th street, 3131, 3131-a, and 3133. reporter: he s also told us there are no injuries. at this
announcer: nbc bay area news begins with breaking news. that breaking news, you can look at it right there, new images of flames pouring out of a building in san francisco as a fire quickly escalates to five alarms. people nearby told to shelter in place. good evening, everyone. i m terry mcsweeney. the flames broke out around 2:00 in a building at 29th and mission streets in san francisco. that fire quickly spread, reaching four alarms in less than an hour. now nbc bay area s christie smith is there live. it looks like firefighters are getting the upper hand. what are you learning? reporter: they re working very hard. we re at five alarms, eight buildings involved. this is one of those buildings at 29th and mission. what you see out here right now is just ladder trucks, i count at least four or five of them, spraying water on the outside of these buildings. these are residential units, with businesses below. it started at 2:00, as you said, and grew quickly. there is
13th, 2016. from nbc news, this is a special edition of today, terror in orlando. matt lauer live from orlando, and savannah guthrie from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. good morning. i m matt lauer in orlando. and savannah is in new york city. we re going to bring you live a report from officials. the scene behind me, the pulse nightclub, just a couple hundred yards down the street on the right. that s where the worst mass shooting in u.s. history took place in the very early hours on sunday morning. it must be a community that is just in shock, actually. i think the whole country is in shock this morning, matt. it s almost too much to bear. 50 people killed. 53 injured. it just breaks your heart. you know, you almost want to take that number and leave it up on the screen for the entire show of 50. it really lets you understand the magnitude of this. let s get to overnight developments. as we said, the death toll stands at 50. another 53 people wounded when that
ourselves in a way as to not show exactly what s going on because the investigation, as you said, very much ongoing. i can tell you within the past couple minutes, they have removed that woman s body from the scene, so we re going to zoom in to give you a better look at where she was. you can see police still there gathering as much evidence as they can from the scene. at 8:15 a person driving along georges hill drive spotted something unusual at the edge of a wooded section of fairmount park. police sources tell us it was the handcuffed body of a woman who had been stabbed. no word on who the victim is yet, but police say she appears stomach. test. test. test. doctors from the orlando hospital where so many of the people hurt and wounded are being treated gave an update and said six people are listed in critical condition at this time. five people are in guarded condition and 16 have been upgraded to stable condition. so we heard about the shooter and the investigation int
